Overview
Coal Harbour lies at the north shore of the downtown Vancouver peninsula and on the south shore of Burrard inlet. The area borders north of Georgia St. and west of Burrard St. to world famous Stanley Park. The discovery of low grade coal in the area by Captain Vancouver during 1862 inspired today’s name. Developed in the 1990’s, Coal Harbour is an upscale high-rise condominium district.
This is Vancouver’s most affluent, waterfront neighborhood and provides a second home to many off-shore residents from the US. Asia and Middle East. Most homes are large, luxury condominiums/townhomes and are priced near one to several Million dollars. Many tower residences are architecturally striking, boasting 5 star ratings, first rate amenities and full concierge service.
Coal Harbour offers a more serene setting than most other downtown neighborhoods and that is what makes it so attractive to its residents. Shopping is non-existent, restaurants and cafes are sparse (although Robson Street is only 2-3 blocks away). Most of the areas activities are limited to the shuffling of yachts and cruise ships, pedestrians on the seawall and a bustling float plane/helicopter service from the water Aerodrome at nearby Canada Place. Coal Harbour is the ideal neighbourhood for downsizing and unwinding in a luxury, resort-style setting.
